Faculty Development Opportunities

Upcoming opportunities include:

  • January 7-13, 2019 (recurring): Monthly Virtual Journal Club. The Health Sciences Clinical Teaching Learning Community Monthly Online Journal Club is an asynchronous experience with a clinical teaching and learning focus. Join in each month for a new article, case and questions. For each topic, you will have a week to reflect and respond. Topic for January: "LGBTQ Education, Inclusivity and Health Equity." Register
  • January 23, 2019, 12:00 PM-1:30 PM (recurring): Mid-Career Faculty Chat, Union South. Join a small group of campus colleagues to explore issues and challenges faced by mid-career faculty, and to learn about available resources. The sessions will address topics such as making the transition to your next significant project, achieving work-life balance, mentorship networks, use of research leaves and release time to further your research and more. January's session will focus on "Defining a Career Path at Mid-Career." Register | Upcoming dates and topics
  • January 29, 2019 7:30-8:15 AM (recurring), New Faculty Career Conversations, HSLC 1222. Join us for Career Conversations. These conversations will provide a structure to help new faculty feel more connected and a part of the community. Each will include a different topic of conversation relevant to faculty life. The topic for January is “Getting Your Career Off the Ground.” Refreshments will be served. Register
  • February 5, 2019, 4:00-6:00 PM, Pathways to Promotion Tenure Workshop, HSLC. This workshop is co-hosted by the Biological Sciences Divisional Executive Committee, Office of the Secretary of the Faculty, Office of the Provost and is offered in partnership with the School of Medicine & Public Health. Register
  • February 14, 2019, 12:00-1:30 PM (recurring), Assistant Professor Chat, Union South.Join a small group of assistant professors from across campus in open discussions on topics of interest to tenure-track faculty. The sessions will connect faculty with campus leaders and fellow colleagues, foster a sense of community, and provide opportunities to learn about key programs, research funding initiatives, and other resources that support career success.   • February 25-27, 2019 (off-campus): The University of California San Francisco, in collaboration with the Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education, is offering the 2nd Annual Developing Medical Educators of the 21st Century course, on in San Francisco, California. More information & online registration
  • March 8, 2019 8:30 AM-12:00 PM, Pathways to Promotion 101 Workshop, HSLC. An interactive workshop tailored to CHS and CT track faculty who have been at SMPH for 3 years or less. This workshop will cover introductory information regarding the tracks, process for promotion, and how to jump-start the process of organizing and collecting information. This workshop is strongly recommended for probationary faculty. Mentors are also welcome to attend. Register
